The practice of installing and repairing appliances in the homes of clients. Repair technicians usually install and fix typical household appliances, such as microwaves, stoves, refrigerators, washers and dryers. These technicians usually work for appliance retailers, but some are employed by local businesses that specialize in the installation and repair of home appliances.

Because the work of home appliance repair technicians involves handling heavy appliances, such as refrigerators and stoves, physical fitness and good health are a must. Technicians may need to attend additional training classes at regular intervals and read up on the latest products from home appliance manufacturers to stay up to date with the latest technological advancements. They will also learn how to install and repair new types of appliances. Prospective applicants for these positions can learn the skills for the job from vocational or technical classes at community colleges, and some employers might provide their workers with on-the-job training.

Home appliance repair technicians mostly work outside a traditional office. Technicians may be required to possess a driver's license to drive to various homes, offices and other locations where an install or repair is necessary. Many home appliance installation businesses offer service during most hours of the day, so technicians might need to work long hours or have shifts that are different than a typical eight-hour work day.

Most employers require that home appliance repair technicians have a high school diploma or vocational school experience, and these technicians must be handy and comfortable while using a variety of tools to fix complex machines. Analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for repair technicians, so they can identify and solve different types of appliance malfunctions.

Thanks
