Owners of the Boston and LA Avalon clubs have slicked up the orphaned former Limelight in hopes of creating New York's next "sexy cool dance venue." The redesign of the former church leans heavily on modern club accoutrements: lots of under-lit bars, backlit walls, and a glowing entryway floor. All of the smaller lounges and bars lead to one final destination: the dance floor. With its soaring ceilings, sizeable stage and gigantic DJ booth--which has its own bathroom and couches--it's easy to see that mega star performers will feel right at home. Design firm d-ash reworked the Avalon side of the club and its separate, but adjoining, uber VIP spot, the Spider Club. (There's plenty of VIP room to go around in Avalon, as well.) It has all the makings of a flashy megaclub, while managing to pull off a more intimate vibe than most-- which should keep this place packed, at least for the first few months.
