One of New York City's few remaining dance palaces, Roxy is the size of an airport hangar, powered by a state-of-the-art sound system, and glitters with strobes, mirrors and lasers. The main room features two circular bars, a pavilion-like lounge area equipped with cozy couches, tables and mismatched vintage lamps, and a sunken dance floor built to accommodate hundreds of revelers. Driving house beats generally rule the main area, while '80s favorites, hip-hop, and pop hits entertain on the second-floor mezzanine. Nooks and crannies abound, giving returning party people plenty to explore. Big and beautiful, Roxy hosts New York City's only roller-disco on Wednesday nights, and the biggest gay party in town on Saturdays -- as well as concerts and one-night-only special events throughout the year. -- Hannah Fons.
