Continuing the 'sheikh chic' theme like sister lounge Le Souk, Falucka (just like the Nile River boats) bathes the brick-walled, leather ottoman-filled space in dim earthy light from many hanging Moroccan lamps, as hypnotic exotic rhythms that combine Middle Eastern music and modern electronica make everyone move whether standing or not. There's always a DJ, except when live music is presented on Mondays -- their biggest party night. Drummers, violinists, guest musicians and belly dancers completely take over and infect the crowd with energy while bartenders serve up juice drinks made with mango and guava puree, flaming shots, and host the show from behind the bar. The crowd is all over the map, literally. Black, white, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, gay, straight, and otherwise drink and dance in harmony, with a fair sprinkling of neighborhood characters. Bleecker is fine with all the folk clubs and touristy margarita places, but a little exoticism couldn't hurt.
