Early press materials for Viscaya touted the arrival of a "new alternative in NYC nightlife." In fact, this nightspot is a typical Gotham club, with the typical cadre of black-clad door soldiers, high-priced drinks, and hip-hop and dance music. It's slick for sure, with three separate rooms, all very shiny. The most notable space boasts conical, high-backed banquettes that look like Jacuzzis for NBA starters. Each one comes with its own volume control for the booth's individual speakers -- a smart way to provide privacy for name-brand celebrities and their entourages. A moneyed, urban crowd commutes between the bar and dance floors, each of which has its own DJ.
